On September 3, 2020, just about 36% of Jamaicans turned up at the polls to elect the next government, but exercising the franchise looked different this time around thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead of the usual social gatherings to wait for results, Covid protocols forced Jamaicans inside. The gatherings took place online, the usual merriment now captured by rapid fire tweets and posts. A group of Jamaican coders and software developers called Codewhare had a contribution to election night; the group created an interactive map of Jamaica’s constituencies and party members vying for seats to form the next government with live results.
