JISTV | Ministry of Labour and Social Security Labour Talks Roadshow
@Sep 16 2024 03:06 PM
The session will accommodate participation of over one thousand (1,000) persons who will engage in a job fair and information session under the theme Transforming Jamaica’s Workforce for Greater Resilience and Sustainable Development.
Thematic discussion will be held on Productivity following on the Jamaica Productivity Centre’s last June Summit. The productivity centre will examine the key ingredients for productive efficiency across key industries including the Global Services Sector, Manufacturing, Tourism, and the Financial Services. This presentation will set the platform for panel discussions on the Future of Work. In particular, the vexed issue of Labour Supply and possible shortages by industry will be dissected to arrive at consensus on the pathway to achieving the optimal balance between employment and the digitization of industries that are heavily labour intensive.
As part of the activities and services the Electronic Labour Exchange Department now rebranded Jamaica Jobs, will be hosting a job fair which will facilitate over thirty (30) employers across several industries with over 700 job vacancies. A number of companies will conduct interviews on spot.
The Honourable Minister will have the opportunity to formally launch Jamaica Jobs @jamaicajobs.com and provide insight on the newly signed Social Protection for Increased Resilience and Opportunity (SPIRO) project.
Under the SPIRO a new electronic placement platform will be developed, however in the interim enhancements will be made to the current platform. Over sixty-four thousand (64,000) job seekers and approximately One Thousand and Eight Hundred (1,800) employers are current users of the Ministry’s placement platform.
Training agencies in St. James. Hanover, Westmoreland and Trelawny will be invited to partner with the Ministry for greater access to employment and internship opportunities in the Western Region.
