In 2011, the Governor General of Jamaica - Sir Patrick Allen - proclaimed that Jamaica Day be celebrated annually on the last Friday of February, unless there are adverse circumstances. It, therefore, means that Friday, February 23, 2024 will be celebrated as Jamaica Day. This year we observe Jamaica Day under the theme “Celebrating Jamaica: Authentic and Unique…A Fi Wi TREND A Dweet” as an opportunity for our school and the wider community to come together and showcase the diversity and individuality that make us special. As we celebrate Jamaica, the Ministry of Education and Youth focusses deliberate attention on this new thrust “TREND” which aims to empower individuals, communities, and educational stakeholders to actively participate in and support the evolving landscape of education in Jamaica. As our nation becomes conscious of the synchronicity among education, culture, civics and good character, an opportunity is being provided for a deeper awareness of the transformative work of the Ministry of Education and Youth in these areas. This Jamaica Day presents an opportunity for the nation to join the TREND, reflect and highlight people, places and things that make us who we are through: ● Sports ● Culinary Arts ● Literary Arts ● Performing Arts ● Visual Arts ● Notable Jamaicans ● Innovations Consideration should also be given to the fact that while our nation becomes conscious of the relationship among our culture, health and environment, an opportunity is being provided for our students to explore and display environmental stewardship and create innovations which could contribute to its preservation.
