Renovated Mandeville Centre Day Nursery Reopened @Oct 4 2021 03:30 PM
The recently renovated the Women’s Centre of Jamaica’s Mandeville Centre Day Nursery in Manchester was re-opened last week. It cost $14 million to renovate the centre which has two classrooms, a nursery, kitchen, dining facility and an administrative block. The National Poppy appeal was launched on Sunday October 4. The poppy has become a symbol of the enduring sacrifice made by servicemen and women in previous global wars. In world war one Flanders Field was a major battle theatre on the Western Front drawing over a million soldiers from over 50 nations into the conflict. In the end casualties ran an estimated six hundred thousand. After the fighting poppies began to grow at the fields...a sea of red. Here in Jamaica as with other countries across the world, the poppy appeal is designed to honour ex-service members for their invaluable sacrifice. Many Jamaican youngsters dream of being a professional footballer and playing in the European league. The Phoenix All-Star football academy is making those dreams realty for many. Many scouts were calling after a team from the academy toured England in August 2021. 11 of the youngsters have since been awarded full scholarships to attend football academies in Europe.
