The purpose of the post-cabinet press briefing is to provide the media and the public with an opportunity to learn about the decisions that have been made by the Cabinet. The briefing is usually held on Wednesdays at 9:00 AM at the Office of the Prime Minister. The briefing is hosted by Senator Dr. the Hon. Dana Morris Dixon, Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Information, Skills and Digital Transformation who is responsible for providing an overview of the decisions that have been made. The ministers responsible for the individual portfolios will then provide more details about the decisions that affect their areas of responsibility. The post-cabinet press briefing is an important way for the government to communicate with the public about its policies and priorities. It is also an opportunity for the media to ask questions about the decisions that have been made. A protected area is “a clearly defined geographical area of land and or water that is dedicated to and managed for the long-term conservation and sustainable use of its ecological systems, biodiversity and/or specific natural, cultural or aesthetic resources.” In accordance with national plans and global commitments, a system of protected areas has been established to ensure that Jamaica’s diverse ecological areas, culture and heritage are under effective protection and management. The National Outcomes of Vision 2030 Jamaica: National Development Plan includes Authentic and Transformational Culture and Sustainable Management and Use of Environmental and Natural Resources. As a Party to the Convention on Biological Diversity, Jamaica is implementing the Programme of Work on Protected Areas which requires Parties to: “develop comprehensive, effectively managed and ecologically representative national and regional systems of terrestrial and marine protected areas… to contribute to achieving the objectives of the Convention, to help reduce biodiversity loss and contribute to poverty reduction and the pursuit of sustainable development.” The Jamaica Information Service(JIS) is aimed at reporting up to date factual Government News for Jamaican Citizens here and abroad.
