JISTV | United Nations Summit of the Future Youth Dialogue

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, in partnership with the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator (UNRCO), with support from the UN Country Team, is convening a youth-driven dialogue on the Summit of the Future on 16 August 2024.
This event will bring together a diverse group of young Jamaicans from across the country and the diaspora, including representatives from youth organizations, academia, and NGOs. They will engage with policy and decision-makers, the UN System, and international development partners.
The dialogue will serve as a dynamic platform to deepen young people's understanding of critical global challenges and how actions to address these challenges will shape their future. It will also provide a space to share ideas to promote more effective international cooperation. The insights and contributions from this dialogue aim to enrich Jamaica’s participation in the Summit of the Future and strengthen Jamaica’s contributions to the summit's outcomes, thereby catalyzing the nation's achievement of the SDGs.
Objectives:
• Building partnerships at the national level: The national dialogue on the Summit of the Future will foster effective, equitable, and sustainable multi-stakeholder partnerships. It will engage young people, academia, civil society, the UN System, and other stakeholders at the national level, promoting collaborative efforts for sustainable development.
• Enhancing awareness among youth on the issues impacting their future: The dialogue will promote equitable, systematic, inclusive, and meaningful youth engagement. It will enhance trust, understanding, and collaboration between different sectors and youth stakeholders on issues directly related to present and future generations.
• Identifying and prioritizing the Government of Jamaica’s inputs for the Summit of the Future: Convening a multi-stakeholder youth dialogue will gather a wide cross-section of inputs to inform practical and forward-looking national contributions for the Summit of the Future.
Outcomes:
• Enhanced awareness and understanding: Participants will gain a deeper awareness and understanding of the urgent actions needed to address global and national development Page 2 of 3 challenges, fostering a shared commitment to sustainable development and international cooperation.
• Increased collaboration and partnership: The dialogue will increase collaboration and
partnership among stakeholders, enabling collective and accelerated actions toward achieving
global goals.
• Generation of innovative ideas and solutions: The dialogue will generate and articulate innovative ideas and solutions from youth establishing their contributions to national priorities and global commitments for the future.
By engaging in this transformative dialogue, Jamaica’s youth will be empowered to contribute to shaping a resilient, sustainable, and prosperous future for their country and the world.
