There has reports in the media recently of an area of disputed land in Eastern St Thomas called Old Piera. Residents there are disputing the claims of ownership of the land by former Member of Parliament Pearnel Charles senior. His daughter, MP Dr. Michelle Charles, found herself in the middle of confrontation with irate residents while the area was visited by opposition leader Mark Golding. The Jamaica Urban Transit Company, JUTC, and the education ministry are working with the Jamaica Hertitage Trust to restore station houses especially the Old Harbour Station. Transport Minister Robert Montague told his colleagues in Parliament Wednesday that students will disembark in Spanish town and carried to various schools by JUTC buses. The service took place on at the St Augustine Kingston College Chapel on North Street in Kingston. He died on April 28 at the age of 82. Ambassador Johnson was a former Jamaica Labour Party Member of Parliament, Senator, diplomat, economist, lecturer and Ambassador to the United States. He was also High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Finland, the Kingdoms of Sweden, Norway and Denmark and Ireland, and Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS). The official memorial service the late Former Senator and Member of Parliament, Ambassador the Honourable Anthony Johnson, OJ, is to take place on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the St Augustine Chapel, Kingston College Chapel, North Street, Kingston. In keeping with the COVID-19 measures under the Disaster Risk Management Act, it will take place with a restricted number of persons in keeping with the approved numbers for assembly at church services. Participating public officials at the Chapel will be limited to the Head of State, the Head of Government and the Leader of the Opposition in keeping with their ceremonial roles.
