Caribbean Economic Forum - “How to Digitise An Economy” - October 27, 2020
@Oct 27 2020 08:44 PM
Digitisation has emerged as one of the critical factors driving economic growth and development. Without doubt, the rapid growth of technology and the proliferation of communication devices permeate all levels of society. On a national and regional levels, the likelihood of rapid change has hastened leaders to close the digital divide that creates vulnerabilities within our societies. Changes in the legal and regulatory frameworks within the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union has already advanced the piloting of digital economic initiatives for countries such as Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis and Antigua and Barbuda. Adding to this are Barbados’ efforts towards a more integrated government framework. Other governments have articulated their desire to accelerate digitizing their economies.
Our forum will include insights from Rwanda’s 20 year journey in digitisation. One that has led to them being described as the “Singapore of Africa.” Advancements in innovation and the sweeping integration of technology across platforms and industries are by right notable achievements.
The panel includes Rwandan Paula Ingabire, Minister of ICT and Innovation, a noted regional economist that specializes in digitization, and Senator Akilah Byron-Nisbett, Minister of Health, ICT, Entertainment, Entrepreneurship and Talent Development, St. Kitts and Nevis. They will discuss technology and economic transformation, the process of technological change, how our people will benefit from digitization: ease of doing business, more job opportunities, new economic activity, and expanding global opportunities.
